Art is a State of Mediation it’s Where We Connect to the Source.
2012 was full of flying around, losing a loved one, trying out a new career move, that did not work out, and organizing my wedding. On a waking moment basis I’m constantly battling with making a living while traveling because I have so many areas I can work in. I’m lucky to be a gifted person who can pretty much do what I set my mind to, whether its painting, drawing, making jewelry, crafting and cooking or just coming up with ideas my mind is always on the go, but this is also my downfall because I’m always moving from one job to the next and never doing something exceptionally well, and I often find myself exhausted and still struggling to be an artist.
As the year was at an end, I sat quietly and thought about my year and how I felt about my experience. Was I happy? Did i make others happy? Did I achieve the things I wanted? And if not why what happened for me to disconnect for a time. And this is how “Earth Soul” came to be. I was a wanting to be still and go back to the basics. Just using a graphite pencil to create and still my mind and meditate on going back to my roots.
Earth Soul is about going back to basics and learning from the ground up connecting to our roots. We all have times when we need to reconnect to the earth and feel at peace within ourselves after a busy day. Or maybe we want to spend a few minutes at the beginning of the day just to centre ourselves for the day ahead. Earth Soul is just that she watches and listens to the world within herself and around her and connects to the divine source as she becomes one with the earth. Many mediations start off or finish off with a grounding exercise. An ideal way is to imagine you feet growing roots and feeling all the goodness from the earth. As you breathe in you fill your body of all the goodness of the earth and as you breathe out, you release all the stresses, and any negative emotions of the day. The more you do this the more your roots travel and the more refreshed you will feel, ready to take on the day ahead, or relax at the end of a long day.
I’m still chasing my tail with different projects and trying to calm my mind, like what do I write next and will I achieve what I want at the end of this day? I’m sure many of you are asking yourselves the same questions? Does it really matter that I don’t achieve all I set out for my day? Will I punish myself if I don’t? Yes is the most likely answer, but today my message is to enjoy everything. So with that in mind its time to take a shower and grow my roots and reevaluate where I am heading today.
The Model in this painting is Lady Amaranth to visit her website look here. She has some amazing photos, she models for many companies and is such an inspiration.
Ummm my first post this 2011 🙂 and it is the season of “Love” so I bring you “Butterfly Kisses” for the gothic valentine in you. For a while now I have been wanting to do something different and this was as good as chance as any. So the reds came out to play 🙂 The model in this painting is called Lady Amaranth and her website is www.ladyamaranth.com. I just let my feelings guide me this month and embraised my darker side and added some beauty with it. I also wanted to create something different with Lady amaranth so I turned her into a zombie, she is like sweet nectar to the butterflies and they love to kiss her. There is no particular story behind this piece I just felt inspired to create what I did, towards the end of the sketching process I felt it fitting to add “The Frog Prince”. Will she kiss her prince before midnight to save her soul? This is the first of my gothic images and I hope to bring you more in the future. Thinking about your write ups has lead me to an idea for a Competition!

Autumn is one of my favorite seasons of the year. I love watching the trees change color. Its natures grand finally like firework display of dazzling colors from greens to darker greens, browns, yellows, oranges to reds. Its a season of celebration and harvesting. The leaves eventually and leave a blanket of color that slowly breaks down enriching the earth for next’s years cycle of birth.
The goddess of Autumn is Demeter she is goddess of harvest within Greek mythology. Demeter resided over barley and the harvest, she was also associated with the poppy. Here I have depicted her with faerie like features, she is greeting her faerie friend who lovingly dances around her casting out love and appreciation of earthly fruits.
The golden colors change into oranges and reds and you can feel the warmth the colors glow. All around you, you start to here the forest sing with the russell of the leaves from the gentle wind. You can feel the cold coming in, but your face is touched by the warmth of the setting sun. You open your eyes and see your faerie friend dancing around you singing. You glance around and see natures bloom of wild mushrooms and fungi, fruit for the forest animals and forest folk. You spot a long lost friend the Red Squirrel who is gathering for the winter, flicking his bushy tail he moves off busy harvesting as he go’s.
I want to thank John at Ophrys photography for kindly letting me use his wonderful Red Squirrel photo. His site is so worth checking out, he is an amazing photographer, don’t just take my word go and have a look at his site here.
Today we see less and less of our old friend the Red Squirrel but thanks to many charities the Red Squirrel can be found in some parts of the UK still, today you will find them roaming in parts of Scottish Highlands, Anglesey in Wales and the Isle of Wight. A great site to look at for information on helping protect the Red Squirrel is RSST the Red Squirrel Survival Trust. Here you will find projects that are set up help to reintroduced the Red Squirrel back into certain areas in the UK. The Lizard in Cornwall is one of them. There is plenty we can do by helping out the Red Squirrel from becoming a friend or donating there are also other options as well, like volunteer work and spreading the word. As my business grows its my plan to become a friend, but to start I want to help spread the word. At present I already plant one tree for every painting I create and over the coming months I fully intend to do more. Maybe organizing competitions and prize draws to help a charitable cause. So I’m sure you will here more from me over the coming months. A special thanks goes out to Helen at the RSST for her help in telling me what I can do to help.
This Yule card was inspired by Joni, its all about winters wonder. During the first fall of snow everything looks so pure and beautiful and ifs your first time theres nothing like making snow angels and catching your first flakes, or watching you pets experiencing it for the first time, like how they try to catch the flakes with there paws and kinda jump in the snow. Then theres our old friend the Robin who returns to us forever faithful watching over us with his warm glowing breast. For me everything is so calm and beautiful, and full of enchantment. Also available in pocket mirrors, rings, necklaces, cards and prints at my etsy store
Nurture is about the message of our seas and how we must remember to reconnect to our source of life. When we visit the sea we all feel connected to her and gaze out to the horizon and wonder what lies beneath. We all feel joy and happiness when we visit, its a place we often revisit in our minds when we need to relax.
Its time for us to Nurture our feelings to our humble beginings so that we learn to simply live in harmony to nature and ourselves. I have used Larimar for love and its connection to the dolphins and to Atlantis, Larimar is also connected to our throat chakra the first chakra within the body that connects us to the spiritual, its our time to connect with our spirtual waters that has brought so much life here on earth. Pearls for there to represent the moon and the strong tides flows within our life, and citrine I used as a protection symbol for it never needs cleansing and brings more strength to the healing qualities to the sea. Cirine also carries healing qualities form the sun and is connected to our solar plexus which motivates us to take action. I have placed it within the infinity symbol which represents love for ever. Long live the water spirits and may they feel the love we have for them in being our guardians to the water element. Gifts available with this design on at my etsy store are greeing cards, necklaces, pocket mirrors and prints.
