The Petrified Forest

The Petrified Forest

Day 14 on the bikes, and leaving Gallup we headed west once again into Arizona. taking the scenic route into the Petrified Forest.  The Petrified wood  has crystallized after millions of years of being buried under ash from the near by volcanos. And believe me nothing perpared me for the beauty of this amazing landscape, I can honestly say that this is the most amazing road I have ever riden in my life-time, and I didn't want it to end. The national Park is 28 miles long, the road over looks long distance vistas of the Painted Desert, Agate Bridge, Crystal Forest and trail, Jasper Forest, it has hiking trials, pick nick areas and museums, unfortunately due to our limited traveling time we did not get to see all the forest had to offer, but dissapointed we were not… as arriving in the mid afternoon, the forest shuts at 5pm, so we didn't have much time, but we were fortunate enough to see the forest in all its splendour at sunset….inspiring it was almost as if we were in prehistoric times…
If your planning to make a visit here, I'd give yourself a good day to explore, you will not be disapointed.

Gallup

Gallup

The next day we made our way to Gallup, just north of Gallup is the head of the Navajo nation, so Gallup was full of Indian Shops… Plus you can also find the worlds largest Turquoise stone which is valued at a mere $250,000, unfortunately I did not get to see the gem as the Ortega's was closed on the sunday, better luck next year perhaps as we'd like to do this journey again. I found this painting at El Rancho Hotel, painted by a Navajo artist in 1981.. El Rancho Hotel was restores in 1937, and moviestas John Wayne, and Humhrey Bogart have slept there.

Sandia Peaks at Albuquerque

Sandia Peaks at Albuquerque

Onwards to Albuquerque and my this place is massive, after fiding our base for the night, Gaz mentioned that he saw a sign for tram ride up the mountain, well who I am no sounds excellent way to see the city and beyound, even though I'm Alittle scared of heights… So I got on the back of my hunnys harely to Sandia Peaks. The cable car goes up 10,378 feet and travels at 13.6 Mph and takes about 14 minutes. I was alittle nervous on the way up, but the views were amazing…

To round of the day we had a meal in the resturant below while watching the sun set… very romantic 🙂 especially as the lights of Albuquerque came on…

“The Just Imagine Gallery & Coffee House” Tijeras

After a good nights sleep we headed off to Albuquerque just 41 miles away, and it was another glourious day, just alittle nippy on the bikes, one stop on the way was the beautifull Tijeras, the mountains were awsome… and to top it off I found this perfect little shop and cafe called “The Just Imagine Gallery” run by Anna King. Now for those who are into Faeries, Goddesses, candles, clothes, cards, jewelry etc (excellent for those little gifts back home) its a real find, and the little cafe is ace too, and the toilet is so beautifully decorated, and clean, I think its the best presented toilet ever… Anna realy does know how to create alittle fantasy in an all to serious world… heres a picture of Annas Delight…:-)
